Walk along the Harbour's head - October 10th 2006

The 'boys'...looking slightly windblown... :)

Here I am in the middle of the archway in the next picture on down...

This is the archway on the beach that we walked through to get back to the car...you can see the road behind it...we climbed up the hill to get to the harbour mouth, down the hill to the beach and along the beach to the car...
This is the beach we were walking on...its hard to convey in pictures how beautiful it is....its amazing.

The wind was absolutely blasting, this is on the top of the hill looking out over the entrance to the harbour. My hair is being blown straight back, I'm actually wearing an alice band to keep it in some semblance of order. It didn't work...that coat I'm wearing is a very good, completely windproof jacket. I was certainly glad I bought it, it came in very handy.

That's Ben's back...to the right and in the front of Ben are two left over bunkers from WWII. They were used to look out for enemy submarines in the harbour

This is the interisland ferry on its way to Picton in the south island. Its interesting that as Vince says once you add a sea crossing to the reality of a country it ups the complication and price factor of everything. Even so its sooooooooo beautiful and well worth the effort to make the voyage and live with slightly higher prices for some things.

This is the path we were walking up to get to the harbour head. Its beautiful, with lots of broom, native plants and introduced gorse which is a horrid introduced species, thorny and grows all over everything...
This is the suburb of Seatoun where we went walking, we are on a hill overlooking the 'burb. It is a beautiful area within incredible views and beaches...all the pictures on this posting are taken from the beaches and hills around this area.

It was, in case you haven't worked it out yet, a very windy, chilly day. I am *very* rugged up, under my windbreaker I have a polar fleece, a cardigan and a thermal shirt. Alexandar took this picture of Vince and I and I haven't cropped it so you can see the view behind us...

AHHHH! New house pictures. We took Liese out today to see the house, she loved it...we love it and are SO excited.

The second spare bedroom, that is also a king size bed in that room its HUGE

This is one of the double bedrooms...the carpet is somewhat swirly but its in really good nick so we'll keep it for now and replace it later.

This is an outside shot of the sleepout. Its like a seperate area that can be used for guests etc. Its completely done except for the plastering the floor covering. We are debating whether to make it into a flat or a furnished sleepout. Its completely plumbed and needs only the toilet and shower installed, which Vince can do.

This is the hallway of the house....looking into the kitchen...

This is a full on shot of the kitchen. That small white square to the right is the 'dish drawer' that's what its called its like a mini dishwasher its very neat.

Kitchen and dining room, isn't it nice?

This is the view of the Master bedroom, that is a HUGE kingsize bed which should give you an idea of how large the bedroom is...there is an ensuite in here as well.

This is lounge room which the door that looks out over the front of house...

This is a picture of the front of the house taken from the veranda. That will be lovely and cool in the summer. It is signifigantly warmer in the Wairapapa (mid 30's) in the summer.

BBQ corner of patio...

This is the patio and those doors lead into our bedroom....(will be very nice in summer...very very nice)

Side view of the house and driveway and garage

This is a picture of my Mum and Dad...I don't think I posted it before...isn't it a great pic?

NEWS FLASH!!! WE BOUGHT A HOUSE TODAY!!! it is SOOOOO nice. I won't even try to do it justice except to say the following:

Its a completely professionally redone villa 1900's
3 HUGE bedrooms and a sleep out (or can be 2 bedroom flat) which comfortably sleeps 5
Conservatory with a spa (jacuzzi in Canadian)
brand new garage with workshop
1/4 acre section, low maintenance but beautiful grounds
heat pump
Oh and RIGHT ACROSS the street from the train station, 2 minutes from the bakery and 5 minutes from the shop (that's walking not driving).

I got so excited I forgot my digital camera. The agent is going to send me pics and then I will post them...oh and 2 bathrooms :) Vince's oldest son looks less than impressed, their mum just dropped them off, its in Carterton (an hour by train to Wellington)...but he'll perk up when he sees the house.

I bought this at the home show yesterday. Lilies are my favorite flower and this was just beautiful. It wasn't an expensive piece (this is Mim's budget after all) but I just really really liked it. And so did Vince so no disagreement about asthetics, or where to hang it.

This food represents the most inventive of Satan's tools. Why? Because its incredibly fattening and incredibly tasty and addictive. I LOVE cheese and New Zealand has some of the very best dairy in the world. Vince buys (yuck) Edam cheese but I LOVE extra sharp, which I buy sparingly, so that I don't into one large lump of dairy fat.

WHY does everything nice have to be so bad for you? Like bacon and peanut butter sandwiches for example. They are SOOOOOOOOOO good. And so terrible for you that I have one a month maybe. And when I do eat it, when I'm not thinking how yummy it is all I can think of is...."OOOOOOOO I can hear my arteries clogging" it just isn't fair.

Vince thinks Canadians are a bit strange, what with our obsession with peanut butter and maple syrup. I think its a damn sight better than hucking beet root on everything (including burgers....BARF) You also cannot get a decent filter coffee anywhere except our house cause I bought a machine. If you want a lattee, mochaccino, flat white, americano....blah de blah you can get it but sometimes I crave a truckstop and good old bottomless filter coffee served in thick white cups by someone named "Jill, or Marge, or Lisa".

OOOOO The Camelot in Prince George. Now there was a truckstop, massive servings, heavy on the french fries and don't stink on the calories, but very good. Also had the best coffee.

MMMM food....my favorite subject.... :)
